🔒Your data — where it lives, and what Lechem admits it does not know

Lechem is private by build, not by promise. Your practice — your count, your names, your kabbalos, your Rav's answers — lives on your phone. There is no advertising, no tracking and no analytics of any kind: the app carries no code that reports what you do.

It works with no signal at all, which is both a feature and the proof of the claim. Something that needs a server to function is something that is talking to a server.

There are exactly two ways anything about you leaves the phone, and both are yours to choose. Sending a feedback report — and the screen shows you, on that screen, exactly what the report carries before it goes. And signing in, which is optional, and which no part of the app requires.

Because the data is on your phone, Lechem takes looking after it seriously. There is a backup and restore, a screen that checks the data is healthy, and a screen that tells you honestly how the storage is holding up — because the failure mode of a local-first app is a person losing years of their own record and finding out too late.

And there is a screen most software would never build: what Lechem does not know. Where a text has not been proofed, where a calculation is approximate, where a question was left open. Also a sources page, naming what the app's content is built on. An app that never admits a gap is an app that hides them.

If you ever want to see how a number was arrived at, you can. Every count can be rebuilt in front of you, entry by entry, with the rule each one came from — and if something is wrong, there is a way to correct it that does not involve deleting your history.
