Lechem
What's the bracha on this?
You are holding something and you are not sure. Look it up by name, by picture, or by pointing the camera at the label — and Lechem tells you the bracha before and the bracha after.
Lechem is a helper and a reminder. It is never a ruling. For anything halachic, ask your Rav.
This is the screen people open most, and it exists because of a small daily embarrassment: you are standing with something in your hand, other people are waiting, and you genuinely do not know. Lechem is built to answer that in one tap, with no lesson attached.
You can find a food three ways, because people are different. Type its name, if you know the name. Tap its picture, if you would rather not read — the picture wall was asked for by name, and it is there for the person who does not want a list of words between him and the answer. Or point the camera at the label of something packaged, and Lechem will read it and tell you what it thinks, which is the honest way to handle a wrapper with thirty ingredients on it.
The answer is not only the bracha before. Lechem gives you the bracha after as well, because that is the half people forget, and it tells you when the thing you are holding changes what you say — a fruit that is not really a fruit for this purpose, a drink taken with a meal, a piece of cake at the end of one.
There is a set of cards for the person who wants to actually know this rather than look it up forever. Short, plain, no scoring, no timer. And there is a screen for the awkward case of having eaten in one place and moved on to another before finishing, which is a real question a real person has once a week and almost never asks out loud.
One more thing, quietly: eating with intention. Not a diet, not a lecture. A place that treats the bracha as the point of the food rather than a toll you pay before it.
Questions people ask
- Is this a psak?
- No. Lechem is a helper and a reminder. Where a case is genuinely disputed it says so and points you to your Rav, and it never presents itself as a ruling.
- Does the camera send my photo anywhere?
- The app is built to work with no signal at all, and nothing about you leaves the phone unless you choose it. See the write-up on your data.
